Build Different. Reveal Shared.

Assembly House 150 creates inspiring, wondrous environments for all to experience the art of building.

Assembly House 150 is a nonprofit art/design/construction studio and incubator in Buffalo, NY.

Our contemporary built environment needs places that nurture the spirit and make us feel more alive. AH150 creates unique, inspiring environments while providing opportunities for skills training, collaboration, and career development for AH150 builders, students, and affiliated tradespeople. Our approach is holistic, exposing young people as well as adults– from all walks of life–to hands-on opportunities that are increasingly rare. At the center of our work is Assembly House, an 1850s-era former church that is being transformed by artist Dennis Maher and the AH150 team into a unique cultural destination and community resource.

Through our creative projects, we aim to:

  • teach skills of building and craft

  • strengthen connections to tools, materials, places, and one another

  • promote the agency of others to shape the environments where they live, work, and play

Each year, AH150 Construction Arts Programs provide approximately 17,000 hours of skill-building education through our core initiatives: SACRA, Model City Builders, and AH Craft. 80% of our SACRA participants secure employment in sectors as varied as fine carpentry, historic restoration, and broader construction. AH Craft is a six-month paid apprenticeship program for SACRA graduates to enhance their skills and earning potential. Model City Builders provides opportunities for the next generation–a high school career discovery program in the fields of architecture and design.

The act of construction is, for us, a bridge to the worlds of art and design, and to new life-changing opportunities. Not only does Assembly House 150 transform spaces, we transform the people who build and experience them.
