The Burchfield Penney Art Center | 2023

Interfield is an immersive artwork by Dennis Maher and Assembly House 150 that transforms the education spaces at the Burchfield Penney Art Center into a densely layered, inspiring environment where visitors are invited to make and explore art. Using specially crafted furnishings, sculptural walls, and other found artifacts, Interfield combines the functions of a museum education space with the dream-like visions of an interior living room and garden grotto. The work is an invitation for discovery, encouraging interaction with the layered assemblages of forms, textures, and surfaces.  

This collaboration between Maher and Assembly House 150 blends newly crafted objects with architectural components, furniture parts, and other found artifacts while teaching skills to aspiring builders. Interfield has been created with contributions by local artisans, students, and tradespeople working through Assembly House 150 and its programs.  Housed within the Useum™ Studio of the Burchfield Penney, this installation is a dynamic art-making space that encourages visitors of all ages to explore their creativity.
